What To Desire – Part 3

Did God destroy Sodom and Gomorrah or did He not? Did He rain fire and brimstone upon those two cities or did He not?

Of course He did. The Bible says so. In fact, let us read the account.

“And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself toward the ground; And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.

But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, and said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now we will deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.” (Gen. 19:9)

Now, you may not realize it, but angels are extremely wonderful creatures. Even transformed into men, they were extremely handsome. And when the men of the city, sodomites, saw these fine young men, their lust for strange flesh kicked in. And they ganged up and lay in wait until night came; then they went and surrounded Lot’s house.

“Open up!” they banged on Lot’s door. Now imagine, all the men of the city, hundreds, possibly thousands of them. And they demanded that Lot hand over the two strangers to them – “that we may know them”, they said. In other words, to sodomize them.

Lot was extremely horrified by what was about to happen. He was so horrified that he offered to give up his two daughters, virgins, in exchange for the safety of the two strangers who had sought refuge in his house. What a Godly man Lot was!

But it was in Heaven Itself where this act by the Sodomites was deemed so repulsive that God acted immediately.

“Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.” (Gen. 19:24-25)

God destroyed both Sodom and Gomorrah on account of the sin of sodomy. Just as there are things that we don’t like there are also things that God detests. And when we do those things, we are fighting God.

Modern man has outdone himself in his effort to fight against God. Back in 2013 and 2014 respectively, President Barack Obama of the United States of America publicly gave recognition to and praised two high profile athletes, one from the NBA and the other from the NFL, for coming out publicly and declaring that they were gays, or sodomites. President Obama called them “heroes”; and, indeed, they were labeled so both by the liberal media and by every liberal public figure.

These men were declared heroes by men. For what were they heroes? Had they discovered a new vaccine? Had they made fought in any war and defeated an enemy? No. On the contrary, they were acknowledged and labeled heroes by the mighty men of this world because they had fought against God! They were heroes for fighting against the laws of God, of which the Bible says,

The law of the Lord is perfect” (Ps. 19:7)

Liberalism without God is slavery to sin. Unfortunately, America provides the best examples of this. I once saw a demonstration in the state of California, and the people who were demonstrating were demonstrating against, of all people, God! They were holding up posters with the words “Get God out of California!”

One thing I know for sure: God does not force Himself on people. Soon after, God packed His bags and left California. Not long afterwards, the forest fires began burning, and they have been burning ever since.

God is not some lifeless entity, and it is incredible to know that there are things that God loves. God loves truth and righteousness. It pleases Him greatly when we too love the things that He loves.

And it hurts Him when we love the things that He is against. But we can always turn and repent, and begin loving the things that God loves, which are the attributes of the Holy Spirit.

King Asa vs President Obama

In the Book of 1 Kings chapter 15, verses 11 and 12, we read: “AND ASA DID THAT WHICH WAS RIGHT IN THE EYES OF THE LORD, AS DID DAVID HIS FATHER.  AND HE TOOK AWAY THE SODOMITES OUT OF THE LAND, AND REMOVED ALL THE IDOLS THAT HIS FATHERS HAD MADE.”

Notice the Bible says that King Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord because, among other things, he removed homosexuals from the land of Israel. King Asa uprooted the sin of sodomy from his land.

That can definitely not be said of the current president of the United States of America, who wants his entire country to be awash with homosexuals, LBGTs and all kinds of inverted sexual practitioners. Moreover, and worse, is the fact that he is coercing other nations, including African countries, to institute these “human rights”, as he considers them, within their borders. His Secretary of State, John Kerry recently threatened to withhold aid to the Ugandan government for decreeing stringent anti-gay laws in the country.

In inference, therefore, President Obama wants the whole world to accommodate homosexuals.

At the very outset, let us keep in mind that God deeply loves homosexual people, as He does President Obama. And we, too, ought to go out to them with the highest level of the love of Christ. (Actually, a person who is living in sin is a person who is worthy of all our compassion for, unawares – or probably knowingly – they suffer terribly).

But we cannot ignore the fact that God is at war with sin. That’s a fact. God’s love for mankind is therefore not a ticket to live in sin. God’s love for humankind is actually revealed in His fight against sin.

The “human rights” that Obama is championing are certainly not God’s rights or preferences. In fact, they are the exact reverse. These “rights” originate from sin. They are Satanic, demonic.

President Obama says he is a Christian, and I even read that he attends church. I am left wondering whether he actually reads the Bible! The above scriptures prove that in going to church and in saying that he is a Christian, this particular “king” neither knows what he is doing nor what he is saying. More alarming for him, though, is that one day he will stand before God and account for all the people that he led away from God’s law.

In the final analysis, it would have been so much better for him to not say anything than to say and advocate something which is so clearly against God’s righteousness.

Y’know, it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea for me to ask one of my readers in the U.S. to meet up with President Obama and ask him to read 1 Kings 15:11-12. And to mull it over.

7 THE LAW OF THE LORD IS PERFECT, CONVERTING THE SOUL: THE TESTIMONY OF THE LORD IS SURE, MAKING WISE THE SIMPLE.

8 THE STATUTES OF THE LORD ARE RIGHT, REJOICING THE HEART: THE COMMANDMENT OF THE LORD IS PURE, ENLIGHTENING THE EYES.

9 THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS CLEAN, ENDURING FOR EVER: THE JUDGMENTS OF THE LORD ARE TRUE AND RIGHTEOUS ALTOGETHER.

10 MORE TO BE DESIRED ARE THEY THAN GOLD, YEA, THAN MUCH FINE GOLD: SWEETER ALSO THAN HONEY AND THE HONEYCOMB.

11 MOREOVER BY THEM IS THY SERVANT WARNED: AND IN KEEPING OF THEM THERE IS GREAT REWARD. Psalm 19:7-11

Lot’s Mistake: Homosexuality and the Church – Part 2

I read in the news recently that more and more churches are welcoming gay men and women into their congregations and that many more churches are defending gay agendas. (I even read that there are homosexual musicians in church today, and that they are highly respected! And that there are now gay pastors also).

Immediately I read that I exclaimed inwardly, “No, that’s not the church!”

I doubt there is any man alive today who had as much grace or love as the Apostle Paul had. And yet, when Paul heard that in the Corinthian church there was a man committing adultery with his father’s wife, he was so incensed that he commanded the man be thrown out of church immediately!

Paul then went much further and made a statement which must have rubbed the liberals in the Corinthian church the wrong way (It appears the church was filled with liberals and that everyone was allowed to live as they wanted).

Paul wrote them: “9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: 10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. 11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.” 1 Cor. 5:9-11

Paul had warned them earlier not to consort with a brother (or sister) who is a fornicator. And here he reiterates his stand – and takes the opportunity to add to his list of people not to company with.

Now, you wonder, if Paul directed all that anger at these kinds of relatively ‘soft’ sins, how much more would he have done on account of homosexuality? I am sure Paul would have reserved an infinitely harsher punishment for a homosexual ‘brother’, had there been one in that congregation.

Lot made a monumental mistake and it cost him dearly. The Bible tells us about Lot’s difficult life in Sodom. It says that he was vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)” 2 Pet. 2:7-8

He would experience more and bitter fruit later in the demise of his wife, and in the harlotry of his daughters.

And someone might probably be asking, “What was Lot supposed to do?”

The answer is that he ought to have separated himself from Sodom a long, long time ago.

Apparently there are people today – Christians – who do not realize or who have forgotten that Jesus brought not only grace, but truth also (John 1:17). We talk a lot about grace, but what about truth? The truth is that our God is a holy God.

Grace is the soft part; truth is the hard part. And there is not one without the other. You couldn’t say, for example, “A homosexual saint”, could you? That is truth. (The people who comprise the church are called saints).

Whatever sympathies we might have towards homosexuals can only be relevant in the context of repentance, just as with any other sin. God is a holy God, and we cannot compromise God’s holiness in favour of our own misguided notions of liberalism. Our God is too great a God for that.

The Apostle says, Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened” (1 Cor. 5:7).

The church needs some purging today. If we are too weak-kneed for that, we could all end up either as Lot or the Sodomites. It was not a happy ending for either of them.

Lot’s Mistake: Homosexuality and the Church – Part 1

But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. 1 Cor. 5:11

Two girls – friends of my son Joe – came to visit me recently and as we sat in my room after a sumptuous lunch, I was regaling them with tales of how I met my lovely wife Flo (which just happens to be my pet pastime when I have a willing audience as was the case with these girls).

Having honed my story-telling skills over the years, I expertly wove my favorite love yarn until the two doomed girls were leaning into each other’s shoulders, eyes starry-filled with the romance of it all. Giggles of excitement kept ringing out and knowing glances were exchanged.

Both girls were in their early 20s and they were very eager to learn more about our “affair”. But romance ultimately has to do with sexuality. And sexuality has to do with a man and a woman. It was then that the thought crossed my mind that these girls were getting all excited over… a man!

Ugh!!

There are many occasions where I have slept with men in the same bed, after all this is Africa. There are even times we have slept three men in the same bed. The middle guy faces one way, and the other two face the other way.

But when I sleep with a man in the same bed, I want him as far away from me as possible. If by chance he happens to touch me accidentally at night, my entire body freezes like pack ice; a man’s touch is the most horrible feeling that I have ever experienced. Here I am talking about him touching me accidentally, of course. If he were to touch me intentionally, that would be an entirely different matter. No world war that has ever been fought could compare with what would ensue then.

Any amorous feelings that I could possibly have for another man are more likely fossilized in unbreakable ice somewhere in the outermost galaxy of another universe.

That is why I believe that there is something called the devil. Only the devil can make a man to have any sexually passionate feelings towards another man. It is so unnatural!

It is unnatural because the God who created this world and everything in it never intended, nor did he create any such thing as a man to have romantic feelings towards a fellow man. But today, alas! there are men (and women) who have perfected this Sodomite art. I read about a man whose “partner” – another man – died. And they wrote, “His husband died…”

That is a phrase which you should not even try bending your mind around because you could end up in a psychiatric ward, chained to a bed and chewing at your tongue! It’s weird, creepy!

Homosexuality is an exceptional sin. It is utter depravity, and exceedingly loathesome. It is the only sin that we read of in the Bible where God personally came down to check on after He heard that it was being practised in Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18). And the Bible says that upon confirming that these two cities were indeed committing homosexuality, God destroyed them. He rained fire on them from heaven and obliterated the cities and their inhabitants completely from the face of the earth.

Memucan – Staying On The “King’s Highway” (Part 1)

“19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” 1 Corinthians 1:19-21

It is difficult for the church to stay on the King’s highway, especially in our day. But we must.

Who was Memucan, and what is his significance in the Bible? In King Ahasuerus’s kingdom, Memucan was one of the princes “which saw the king’s face, and which sat the first in the kingdom” (Est. 1:14). It is so important to note that.

Memucan is one of the men I love in the Bible. He advised the king and enabled him to make a critical decision when his authority was being tested by the person closest to him – his wife.

Memucan brought on Godly wisdom that allowed a nation to stay on the ‘King’s highway’ at a time when the queen’s disobedience was about to derail the entire nation.

It is so sad how human wisdom has penetrated into the church today and we are not even aware of it.

I have read sermons by modernist preachers in which King Ahasuerus was censured for his “debauchery” and where Queen Vashti was praised for refusing to obey King Ahasuerus’s command to go show off her beauty in front of the king’s “drunken” guests.

Someone high-pitchedly said that Vashti did the right thing in refusing because they too wouldn’t want to be “paraded out there to be displayed like a prize horse!”

Another highly intellectual account talks about Vashti being “forced to surrender her womanly honor” by her “unworthy” husband!

These are simply human ideas about what the Biblical account is about. And you will find countless other similar statements within the church.

But the Bible says right there in the scripture above that we cannot know God through our human wisdom. God has rejected that avenue! It is an avenue all right, but God has rejected it. Only a revelation of God in a humble heart can enable us to know God and to know and walk in His holiness.

When you are not walking in this revelation, you are walking in the flesh, and your brain becomes alive, and God’s ways die in you.

I am glad the Book of Esther is in the Bible. It has been put there on purpose by God Himself to confound the wise men and women of this world – rebellious people, for human wisdom is rebelliousness against God.

There are people who would prefer for the Book of Esther to not be in the Bible. It grates against their intelligence and their sense of decency. This is because they are using their brains instead of their hearts to understand God.

But, you see, God is not about your intelligence or your preferences or your idea of decency. God is not even about what is sensible, rational, logical or judicious. And God is certainly not about women’s lib. I should probably say God is against women’s lib. If you wouldn’t want to be paraded out there like a prize horse, that’s all right with God. But the King plans on parading His bride out there, and that is the important thing.

And I deeply doubt that God is thinking of parading a horse out there, anyway! That is just someone’s human intelligence torturing them.

God is God. Actually, Jesus said that God is Spirit (John 4:24). That means that God is not something that human intelligence can make out.

Human wisdom is actually human pride. Progress, civilization, enlightenment, advancement, development – all these and kindred terms are positive terms as far as human beings are concerned, but it is not even remotely so with God. On the contrary, these very terms are enmity with God.

In our country today, education is at a premium. Parents go to incredible lengths to ensure that their children receive the best education possible. In fact, education has been placed on such a high pedestal that it has become a god. People, including born-again believers, are openly playing idolatry at the altar of education.

And yet this education is the very tool that the devil uses so effectively in his warfare against God. Remember Satan used the most intelligent animal in the Garden of Eden – the serpent – to deceive Eve!

I read in the news today that yesterday (Sunday) a transgender priest preached at the Washington National Cathedral in the U.S. That’s a Christian church! During his sermon he compared the sufferings that transgender people are undergoing worldwide to the sufferings of Christ!

The service was officiated over by a gay priest.

These are highly ‘progressive’ men (and no doubt ministering to highly progressive Christians). I can’t begin to imagine what such people would have to say in a house of God. But whatever they believe in has led them into sin since transgenderism and homosexuality are sin. When ‘progressive’ thoughts are injected into the church the result is sin.

Can you imagine a gay priest preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ? The thought is simply beyond comprehension.

Sodom and Gomorrah

The US state of Utah is trying to hold out against an avalanche called the gay movement. When I read this it reminded me of Lot and Sodom. He tried to hold out against the men of the town who wanted to sodomize the angels. But the onslaught was so fierce that it required the intervention of the angels themselves to ward off the attackers. Utah will need such heavenly help in its fight against the homosexual ‘marriage’ tornado that is pressing at its gates.

But there is another interesting analogy playing out here. Notice that the men of Sodom specifically wanted to have sex with the men who had come into Lot’s house. Lot was so distraught by the monstrous evil he could see unfolding that, in his desperation, he offered the Sodomite men his two virgin daughters; but they would not take them. They wanted the men. That small fact is very important in our understanding of the level of spiritual warfare the Church is engaged in in our day.

Lot was willing to sacrifice his two daughters because he knew the seriousness of the sin that was about to take place.

And this was not just a deviant group within society that was lusting after these men, no. It was the entire male population of the city. The Bible says “the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter”. Did you see that? Men “from every quarter”!

There is a parallel here with what is happening in the world today. Such is the extent of the extraordinary spiritual warfare going on in our generation: the most extreme form of effrontery against anything that is called God. If you think you are living in an ordinary world, wake up! We are not living in ordinary times.

Sodom and Gomorrah had provoked God severely. The angel of the Lord told Lot, “For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it” (Gen 19:13).

The Bible says that God is slow to anger. Don’t get it wrong here. Some people somehow interpret that to mean that God cannot get angry. That is impossible. Not unless He was senile, which He certainly is not. In any case, I don’t see that in the Bible. I only see the Bible saying that God is slow to anger.

By defiantly and aggressively attempting to institute sodomy and many other extreme evils in the world, man and Satan have clearly ‘climbed over the ramparts’ of God’s Kingdom and are now taking their war against God into God’s throne room. Men are not simply content with sinning against God and hiding it from Him, like Adam did; but they have gained a rebellious boldness and they are ready to taunt God.

Clearly, the world is daring God to do something.

God has never condoned the trashing of His holy tenets, even minimally. But here something more brazen is afoot. But, you see, there are levels, even with God. During Sodom’s time men elsewhere were also sinning against God. But a report of a different sort concerning Sodom arrived at God’s desk in Heaven; and He sent His angels to check out whether what He had heard was true.

In Africa we have a saying: ‘If you see a lion sleeping don’t mistake it for a cat’. The world, led by the nation of America, is making a big mistake; but a mistake it is. And I can imagine God is getting very, very angry. That is why I can predict that we are not far from Judgment Day. We have a Biblical precedent for that: Sodom and Gomorrah.

Soon, God is going to rise in all His glory and fury – and we are set for another almighty inferno.

So, in the midst of all these gory proceedings and the expectation of God’s judgement upon the earth, what should the position of the Church be?

The angel of the Lord that was with John admonished him in Revelation 22:10-11: “… Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.”

The Word of God warns us about how we should walk in these end-times. These are times to walk in the fear of the Lord. It is not a time to be ‘world-friendly’.

But also in Luke 21:28 we are encouraged: “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” In other words, be strong, be encouraged – not discouraged – by all that you see going on. Stand strong! And rejoice exceedingly, for we are close to meeting the Lord in the clouds!
